Nominations Invited for AGI/ExxonMobil Exploration Teacher Leadership Academy
Alexandria, VA — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is inviting school administrators to nominate teachers for a unique professional development experience. The 12th annual AGI/ExxonMobil Exploration Teacher Leadership Academy brings K-8 teachers from around the country to Houston for a weeklong program. Participants will:
- Engage in Earth science content
- Explore hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) activities
- Gain real-world science experiences
- Begin their journey as STEM education leaders
ExxonMobil and AGI cover all academy-related costs for the selected teachers, including travel within the United States to Houston, meals, lodging, and educational materials. During the academy, participants interact with their peers from other schools, develop specialized skills and knowledge for teaching Earth and space science, and develop plans for presenting effective workshops to other educators.
Academy Participant Commitment
Academy participants are asked to commit to leading one or more post-academy professional development experiences, such as:
- Workshop
- Conference presentation
- Another type of event that helps enhance the geoscience and STEM teaching knowledge and skills of other educators
AGI welcomes nominations of teachers from all states and school systems serving U.S. students, including those that are part of the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) network. Application reviews will begin in April 2020. AGI will continue to accept and review applications until all spaces are filled.
To nominate one or more teachers, administrators should send an email with the nominee names and email addresses to the Teacher Leadership Academy email address (tla@americangeosciences.org). Learn more about the Teacher Leadership Academy.
