AGI Unveils Completed Geoscience Women in STEM Site With Webinar

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is unveiling its completed Geoscience Women in STEM website this week with a free webinar for educators on providing Earth science teaching and learning resources inspired by the work of leading women in science and engineering. AGI’s Geoscience Women in STEM site is designed to strengthen geoscience education through exploration of the stories of four women scientists, including three who were recently selected as American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) IF/THEN Ambassadors by IF/THEN®, an initiative created by Lyda Hill Philanthropies to promote the participation of girls and women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. Dr. Sharon Mosher Recognized as the 2020 Marcus Milling Legendary Geoscientist

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to recognize Dr. Sharon Mosher, Professor and William Stamps Farish Chair in Geology at the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin (UT), with the 2020 Marcus Milling Legendary Geoscientist Medal. Dr. Mosher has gained renown as a major contributor to the geological sciences through her research in tectonics, structural geology, and petrology, her work improving geoscience education, and her leadership within the geoscience community. AGI Announces 2020 Harriet Evelyn Wallace Scholarship Recipients

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) congratulates master’s student Ali Downard and doctoral student Corinne Kuebler as the 2020 recipients of the Harriet Evelyn Wallace Scholarship. This highly competitive scholarship, awarded to women pursuing graduate degrees in geoscience, provides each recipient with a $5,000 award for one academic year. Wallace Scholars who are continuing their graduate studies are eligible to apply for the award a second time. Ali Downard is a first-year master’s student at the Colorado School of Mines. AGI Adds New 'Career Compass' Infographics to Growing Collection

AGI Offers Free and Reduced-Price Resources for Geoscientists

These resources include AGI’s Glossary of Geology, Geoscience Handbook, professional development modules, and education resources. Glossary of Geology Online Service AGI is providing free individual access to its Glossary of Geology Online Service through June 30, 2020. Sherry Claflin to Receive AGI's Roy Award for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching

Sherry Claflin, an eighth-grade Earth science teacher at White Cloud Junior High School in White Cloud, Michigan, has been named the 2020 recipient of the Edward C. Roy Jr. Award for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching. Claflin earned her bachelor’s degrees in Earth and space science education and journalism from Central Michigan University.
