Former AGI GeoRef Director John Mulvihill Passes Away

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is saddened to share the news that colleague and friend John G. Mulvihill passed away recently. Mulvihill served for 25 years as Director of AGI’s GeoRef Information System, the world’s premier bibliographic database for geoscience research literature. Former AGI Foundation Executive Director Jan van Sant Passes Away

Alexandria, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is saddened to share the news that colleague and friend Dr. Jan van Sant passed away on October 26, 2023, at the age of 91. Dr. van Sant served as Executive Director of the AGI Foundation for many years, raising more than $20 million and overseeing support for numerous AGI education programs and initiatives benefiting the geoscience community. Study Reveals Transformative Impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Geoscience

The American Geoscience Institute (AGI) recently concluded a multi-year research project, funded by the National Science Foundation (Award #2029570), that examined the short- and long-term effects of the pandemic on the geoscience workforce and academic programs. The study, which commenced in May 2020, mapped the journey from pre-pandemic to post-pandemic environments for geoscience employers, non-academic geoscientists, academic faculty, geoscience college and university students, and recent geoscience graduates from 2014 through 2022.
