AGI Welcomes Karst Waters Institute as 47th Member Society

AGI to Co-chair Session at 2010 AGU Fall Meeting

Alexandria, VA — The American Geological Institute (AGI) will be co-chairing a session with the YES Network at the 2010 American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting (13-17 December 2010) on creating professional development resources for early-career geoscientists. This session aims to address the low percentage of geoscience graduates that transition successfully into the profession. National Science Foundation data indicates that approximately 14 percent of all geoscience graduates work in the core geoscience profession, and another 22 percent work in closely-aligned disciplines. GeoSpectrum has long been a source of news and information highlighting AGI’s programs. Now, GeoSpectrum is an outlet for all of AGI’s 47 Member Societies and other geoscience organizations to share information with each other and the broader earth science community. Earth Science Week 2010 'Exploring Energy' Contest Themes Announced

AGI Announces 2010 Edward C. Roy Award for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching

Alexandria, VA—Jason Pittman, lead science resource teacher at Hollin Meadows Science and Focus School in Alexandria, VA, has been named the 2010 recipient of the Edward C. Roy Jr. for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching. Mr. Pittman started his career as a top designer in an internet development company and went on to become president of his own internet design studio.
