Pre-College Geoscientists Recognized at Intel ISEF 2018

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to recognize outstanding science projects by pre-college students honored recently at this year’s Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF).

Intel ISEF unites young scientists from more than 75 countries, showcasing their talents on an international stage, where doctoral-level scientists review and judge their work. As part of an ongoing partnership with Intel ISEF, AGI facilitates the review of geoscience-related entries and offers four awards to recognize outstanding projects.

This year’s award recipients showcased a broad range of exciting geoscience topics including fossils, 3D drone-based modeling, sea level rise, and hydrothermal vents. The winners are listed below:

First Award of $1,500

  • Emily Grace Cross

“Taphonomic Geochemistry of Fossil Bones from Marine and Terrestrial Fossilization Environments”

Second Award of $1000

  • Kathryn Tsi-Pak Kummel and Michelle Tsi-ying Kumm

“Using 3D Drone-based Digital Models to Investigate the Fluvial Geomorphology of an Eroding Coastline”

Third Award of $500

  • Tracking Climate Change, Human Impact, and the Overall Oceanic and Terrestrial Health of Estuaries and Long Island Sound to Influence Policy

  • Tracking Climate Change, Human Impact, and the Overall Oceanic and Terrestrial Health of Estuaries Along the Hudson River
