Professional Development Opportunities Portal Launches for Earth Science Teachers
Alexandria, Va. — Teachers of Earth and space science topics have an effective way to find professional development opportunities, thanks to a new website launched this month. The website provides information on available opportunities in Earth and space science education professional development offered by a wide range of regional and national organizations.
The portal was initiated by the NGSS-ESS Working Group, which is a collaboration of the American Geosciences Institute (AGI), the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT), and the National Earth Science Teaching Association (NESTA). The website is hosted by NAGT.
A user-friendly interface enables educators to search professional development opportunities across a variety of topic areas, grade levels, and formats. Users then can visit the webpages of the organizations that provide the opportunities, so they can follow up and possibly take part.
Experiences being offered include a field trip to the Galapagos Islands, field camps in the southwest United States, subject matter academies, and a week of workshops and technical sessions at the Earth Educators’ Rendezvous. These experiences include opportunities that in some cases offer graduate credit, continuing education units, and/or stipends.
