SEPM Announces its 2015 Awardees
Each year the Society recognizes excellence in several areas of sedimentary geology with the awarding of honors to scientists selected by special committees made up of specialists in that topic. The awards are presented at the 2015 Annual Meeting of the Society, which will be held in Denver, Colorado, May 31-June 2.
The 2015 awardees are:
- Honorary Membership for excellence in professional achievements and extraordinary service to the Society: Steve Driese, Baylor University, Department of Geology, Waco, Texas, USA
- James Lee Wilson Award in recognition of “Excellence in Sedimentary Geology by an Early Career Scientist”: Nathan Sheldon, University of Michigan, Department of Geological Sciences, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
- Francis P. Shepard Medal in recognition of “Excellence in Marine Geology”: Enrico Bonatti, Istituto di Scienze Marine, CNR, Bologna, Italy and Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory, Columbia University, Palisades, New York, USA
- Raymond C. Moore Medal in recognition of “Excellence in Paleontology”: Nancy A. Budd, University of Iowa, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Iowa City, Iowa, USA
- Francis J. Pettijohn Medal in recognition of “Excellence in Sedimentology and Stratigraphy”: Charles Kerans, University of Texas, Jackson School of Geosciences, Austin, Texas, USA and the Bureau of Economic Geology, Austin, Texas
- William H. Twenhofel Medal (the highest award of SEPM Society for Sedimentary Geology) in recognition of “Outstanding Contributions to Sedimentary Geology”: Robert W. Dalrymple, Queen’s University, Department of Geological Sciences, Kingston, Ontario, Canada

SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology) is an international not-for-profit Society headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Through its network of international members, the Society is dedicated to the dissemination of scientific information on sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology, environmental sciences, marine geology, hydrogeology, and many additional related specialties. The Society supports the science and its members in their professional objectives by publication of two major scientific journals, the Journal of Sedimentary Research (JSR) and PALAIOS, in addition to producing research conferences, short courses, and Special Publications. Through SEPM’s continuing education, publications, meetings, and other programs, members and non-members can both gain and exchange information.
