AGI Launches Marcus Milling Legacy Campaign

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (June 26, 2019) - The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is raising awareness and funds to permanently recognize Dr. Marcus Milling’s contributions to the geosciences with a curated, named art collection held by AGI in his honor. The goal of the Marcus Milling Legacy Campaign is to raise a minimum of $50,000. Dr. Milling was an ardent and tireless champion of geoscience education, policy, and information services during the time he served as AGI’s executive director from 1992 until 2006, when he transitioned to a senior advisor role. Sergio de Alba to Receive AGI's Roy Award for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Sergio de Alba, a sixth-grade teacher at R.M. Miano Elementary School in Los Banos, California, has been named the 2019 recipient of the Edward C. Roy Jr. Award for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching. De Alba earned his Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies as well as multiple certificates in Bilingual Cross-Cultural Language, Multiple Subject Teaching, and School Administration from California State University, Stanislaus. In his 18 years as a teacher, de Alba has received awards and recognitions such as the Los Banos Unified School District Teacher of the Year award, National Science Teacher Association Sylvia Shugrue Award for Elementary School Teachers, EPA Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators award honorable mention, and Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence. AGI Celebrates NGWA's Groundwater Awareness Week

Emily Mixon Receives 2019 Harriet Evelyn Wallace Scholarship

March 8, 2019

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) congratulates Emily Mixon as one of two 2019 recipients of the Harriet Evelyn Wallace Scholarship. This highly competitive scholarship, which is awarded each year to two women pursuing graduate degrees in geoscience, provides a $5,000 award for one academic year. Mixon is a master’s student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Department of Geosciences. She is a member of the WiscAr lab group, named for the argon dating technique which is used to understand geologic processes over tens of millions of years. [Read More]
