Marking 70 Years with Redesigned Headquarters and New Membership Opportunities

Founded in 1948, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is proud to celebrate its 70th year with the completed, cutting-edge renovation of its Alexandria headquarters, the M. Ray Thomasson Building, and the announcement of new partnership opportunities and membership benefits. “We have been a proud part of the City of Alexandria for decades, and now we are opening our doors to the community,” said AGI Executive Director Allyson Anderson Book. Renovation of the building, located at 4220 King Street in Alexandria, was taken as an opportunity to fortify the facility with state-of-the-art technology, essential resources, and collaborative spaces to advance the important work of staff, geoscience professionals, and the broader community. AGI Accepting Applications for 2019 Edward C. Roy Jr. Award for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching

With just over a month left to apply, now is the time to view a new webcast about the prestigious Edward C. Roy Jr. Award for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching. Earth Science Week 2018 Contest Winners Announced

Visual Arts Contest Winner Namit Vernekar of Charlotte, N.C., won first place in the visual arts contest with a creative and colorful drawing of two sides (real and imaginary) of Earth. Finalists: Janiru Sumanasiri Esther Gammill Saachi Tamboli Abhiraj Das Students in grades K-5 made two-dimensional artworks illustrating the theme “Earth and Art.” Photo Contest Winner Matt Meisenheimer of Janesville, Wis., won first place in the photo contest with an image of Kalalau Valley in Kauai, Hawaii. AGI Celebrates Groundwater Week With Water Science Resources

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has announced that the theme of Earth Science Week 2019 will be ‘Geoscience Is for Everyone’. The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to recognize Mr. Rex C. Buchanan, Director Emeritus of the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS), as the 2018 recipient of the William B. Heroy Jr. Award for Distinguished Service to AGI. Explore the Art of Geoscience Education at the Torpedo Factory

Join hundreds of children and their families at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia, from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, for Art Safari.
