Pre-College Geoscientists Recognized at Intel ISEF 2018

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to recognize outstanding science projects by pre-college students honored recently at this year’s Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF). Intel ISEF unites young scientists from more than 75 countries, showcasing their talents on an international stage, where doctoral-level scientists review and judge their work. New Database Enhances Access to Geological Survey Publications

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has launched a new online resource, the Geological Surveys Database, to enhance public discovery of reliable geoscience information. This new database provides a state-of-the-art portal for decision-makers and others to search and discover state geological survey publications and USGS factsheets. AGI’s New Resource The Geological Surveys Database is the latest in a collection of high-quality information products from AGI. The International Association for Geoscience Diversity Joins the AGI Federation

The International Association for Geoscience Diversity (IAGD) has joined the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) as an International Associate. The IAGD’s admission to the AGI Federation was formally approved by the AGI Executive Committee earlier this year. Initially what began as a grassroots advisory group to support geoscience instructors working to accommodate the needs of students with disabilities in introductory geoscience courses, the IAGD has grown to an international organization leading the effort to promote access and inclusion from academia into the geoscience profession. AGI's Earth Science Week Photo Exhibit Comes to Houston

Earth Science Week, a program of the American Geosciences Institute (AGI), is partnering with George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston to exhibit more than 20 top photos entered in the celebration’s 2017 photo contest. These eye-catching photos will be on display in Terminal B of the airport from June 24 through July 26, 2018. Shutterbugs from far and wide submitted striking photos that captured evidence of human interaction with natural systems including land, water, air, and living things around their communities. Petroleum and the Environment — a new publication from the American Geosciences Institute

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has released a new publication, Petroleum and the Environment to provide an accessible and information-rich overview of the many intersections between oil and gas operations and the environment. This publication provides a completely rewritten and expanded update to the original Petroleum and the Environment, published in 2003 as part of AGI’s Environmental Awareness Series. Much has changed since then, with advances in hydraulic fracturing (“fracking”) and horizontal drilling leading to a huge increase in oil and gas production in many parts of the United States.
