Earth Science Week 2018 Resolution Introduced in the U.S. House

WASHINGTON, DC — Earth Science Week, the worldwide celebration organized annually by the American Geosciences Institute (AGI), was formally recognized in a resolution introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. The resolution, introduced by Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO), alongside Reps. Barbara Comstock (R-VA), Daniel Lipinski (D-IL), and Ryan Costello (R-PA) would designate the week of October 14-20, 2018, as Earth Science Week. The resolution reads, in part: “…the Earth sciences provide the basis for mitigating natural hazards such as droughts, earthquakes, fires, floods, coastal erosion, landslides, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, space weather, and other hazards. AGI and Geoscience Australia Launch Updated Website for AusGeoRef

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) and Geoscience Australia have launched a new website for AusGeoRef, a bibliographic database for Australian geoscience literature since the mid-19th century. The new website features expanded functionality, including: A geographic search view option The ability to create individual accounts The ability to easily save and share lists of references Launched in 2003 as a cooperative arrangement between AGI and Geoscience Australia, AusGeoRef now includes references to a growing database of more than 200,000 journal articles, books, maps, conference papers, reports, and theses. Celebrate National Fossil Day in DC and Nationwide

WASHINGTON, D.C. — On Wednesday, October 17, 2018, the National Mall will host the ultimate fossil and paleontology experience for visitors in the largest celebration of National Fossil Day yet. The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is proud to celebrate this event, organized by the National Park Service as part of AGI’s Earth Science Week, to promote public awareness about ancient life, paleontology, and public fossil resources. Enter the Life as a Geoscientist Photo Contest

The AGI Workforce Program has officially opened this year’s photo contest. We ask individuals to submit photos of geoscientists at work. Please share this contest with friends, students, colleagues, and anyone else who may be interested in participating!
