Earth Science Week 2019 Theme Announced: 'Geoscience Is for Everyone'

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has announced that the theme of Earth Science Week 2019 will be ‘Geoscience Is for Everyone’. The event will be celebrated from October 15-17, 2019. “Geoscience is for everyone,” says AGI. “This theme emphasizes both the inclusive potential and the importance of the geosciences in the lives of all people. New Earth as Inspiration Chapter Highlights Collaborative Field Experience at Valles Caldera

Rex Buchanan, Director Emeritus of Kansas Geological Survey, Honored for Service to AGI

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to recognize Mr. Rex C. Buchanan, Director Emeritus of the Kansas Geological Survey (KGS), as the 2018 recipient of the William B. Heroy Jr. Award for Distinguished Service to AGI. Mr. Buchanan’s contributions to AGI span decades and are among the highlights of his career as a geoscientist and science communicator, and as interim director of the KGS from 2010 to 2016. Explore the Art of Geoscience Education at the Torpedo Factory

Join hundreds of children and their families at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia, from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, for Art Safari. This year, scientists affiliated with the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) will work alongside Torpedo Factory artists to help participants understand and appreciate the interplay of art and Earth system science. Earth Science Week 2018 Resolution Introduced in the U.S. House

WASHINGTON, DC — Earth Science Week, the worldwide celebration organized annually by the American Geosciences Institute (AGI), was formally recognized in a resolution introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives. The resolution, introduced by Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO), alongside Reps. Barbara Comstock (R-VA), Daniel Lipinski (D-IL), and Ryan Costello (R-PA) would designate the week of October 14-20, 2018, as Earth Science Week. AGI and Geoscience Australia Launch Updated Website for AusGeoRef

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) and Geoscience Australia have launched a new website for AusGeoRef, a bibliographic database for Australian geoscience literature since the mid-19th century. The new website features expanded functionality, including: A geographic search view option The ability to create individual accounts The ability to easily save and share lists of references Launched in 2003 as a cooperative arrangement between AGI and Geoscience Australia, AusGeoRef now includes references to a growing database of more than 200,000 journal articles, books, maps, conference papers, reports, and theses.
