Job Summary
This position isin Region 2, Superfund and Emergency Management Division,Program Support Branch, Technical Support Section. If selected, you must work at the location stated in this announcement. About the office:Region 2.
Major Duties
At the entry level of this position, you will:
- Serve as a staff geologist in the Superfund program on a wide variety of issues including geology, hydrogeology, contaminant transport and behavior, sampling techniques, and remedial technologies;
- Plan and advise field activities, to include sampling in all media, well drilling, surface and downhole geophysics, aquifer testing, soil gas surveys, excavation, in-situ remediation, and construction of various clean-up actions;
- Serve in a technical role in the Region on enforcement negotiations with Potentially Responsible Parties to ensure the Agency's mission is not compromised;
When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.
Qualifications
In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-11 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-09 level defined as participating in conducting site assessments (e.g., soil and/or water sampling and inspections) and cleanup of hazardous waste sites - OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below.
To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined asconducting site assessments (e.g., soil and/or water sampling and inspections) and cleanup of hazardous waste sites; interpreting and/or implementing environmental regulations related to the cleanup of hazardous waste sites.
Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Knowledge of geological and/or hydrogeological principles; 2) Skill in written communication; 3) Skill in working with teams; 4) Skill in oral communication.

Pay Range
$71,593.00 - $111,558.00
