Job Summary
Army Public Health Center mission is to promote and prevent disease, injury and disability of Soldiers, military retirees, their Families and Department of the Army Civilian Employees; and assure effective execution of full spectrum veterinary services for Army and Department of Defense Veterinary missions. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
Major Duties
- Serve as a project manager and subject matter expert on a variety of scientific, engineering and/or consulting areas in the Army Public Health Center?s Environmental Health Sciences and Engineering Directorate.
- Design surveillance evaluations/studies/projects and provide technical direction to assess and resolve environmental health issues.
- Provide professional advice to senior leadership and various other internal/external stakeholders on issues relating to policy, trends, and mitigation of environmental health.
- Represent the organization at meetings involving environmental health surveillance, sampling and/or risk assessment.
- Review technical studies for accuracy and dissemination.
- Prepare briefings, training material and various other multi-format deliverables to report on issues that are pertinent to environmental health surveillance.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. You MUST meet the basic education requirements for the series you're applying to, as per the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: GS-0401, Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. GS-1301, Physical Sciences Series: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. II. In addition to meeting the basic education requirement above, you MUST also possess specialized experience and/or additional directly-related education in the amounts listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Assisting with formulating, planning, or coordinating evaluations/studies/projects relating to environmental health issues; and 2) writing and/or presenting findings from data collected. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years (54 semester hours) of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position, such as Biological Science, Physical Science, or other directly-related field of study. OR
Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of the specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and at least two years of graduate education as described in B, but less than the required three years which when combined, the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts. You may submit unofficial college transcripts to show successful completion of degree or college course work. $69,581.00 - $90,461.00
