Job Summary
This position is inRegion 2, Superfund and Emergency Management Division, Program Support Branch, Technical Support Section. If selected, you must work at the location stated in this announcement. Aboutthe office: Region 2.
Major Duties
At the entry level of this position you will:
- Analyze the effects of toxic substances on human health and the environment;
- Advise on the development of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) S106 and S107 (imminent and substantial endangerment cost recovery actions);
- Assist remedial project managers in evaluating ecological and human health risks and hazards resulting from substances at hazardous waste sites;
- Participate in national workgroups to gain programmatic perspective and learn how regional efforts align with national guidance and policy.
When entering a Federal job at a grade level lower than the highest promotion potential level, you may be promoted to more complex duties and work more independently, as your career progresses.
You will spend less than 25% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.

Qualifications
In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined asassisting with analyzing the effects of toxic substances on human health and the environment - OR master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below.
To qualify for the GS-11 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-09 level defined as analyzing the effects of toxic substances on human health and the environment; and preparing scientific reports - OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in the academic discipline as described below. To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as defined as analyzing the effects of toxic substances on human health and the environment; evaluating risk and hazards resulting from substances at hazardous waste sites; and preparing scientific reports on the health effects of exposure to toxic substances.
Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Skill in conducting risk assessments; 2) Knowledge of CERCLA as it relates to risk assessments; 3) Ability to develop scientifically defensible recommendations; 4) Skill in written communication; 5) Skill in oral communication.

Pay Range
$59,173.00 - $111,558.00
