The Geo-Institute (G-I) is a specialty membership organization focused on geo-professionals and the geo-industry. It is one of the American Society of Civil Engineer's eight specialty Institutes.

The Geo-Institute was created by the American Society of Civil Engineers in October 1996 and is led by a Board of Governors with its Long Term Strategic Plan serving as guidance.

Membership consists of 11,000+ individual members and over 60 Organizational members, including engineers, scientists, technologists, students, and organizations interested in improving the environment, mitigating natural hazards, and economically constructing engineered facilities

The G-I combines the talents and perspectives of its members to enhance their career development through conferences, journals and practice-oriented publications; continuing education programs; networking and coalition-building; committees and task forces, and leadership  on emerging issues.

Its numerous award programs, such as the Karl Terzaghi Lecture, Ralph B. Peck Award, and Wallace Hayward Baker Award, offer members numerous opportunities to be recognized for their outstanding contributions to the geotechnical engineering profession.

The G-I is home of Geo-Strata Magazine, the official bi-monthly magazine of the Geo-Institute. It is a free membership benefit, featuring articles written by and for geo-professionals.

The G-I serves as the United States member society of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE).
