2016 AGI/Schlumberger Fellow in Geoscience Communication
Ben Mandler, originally from England, obtained his M.Sci. in Geology 2010 at the University of Bristol before coming to America for graduate studies. He completed his Ph.D. in Geology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2016. His research focused on the experimental crystallization of magmas at high pressures and temperatures. He used these experiments to study why Earth’s igneous rocks are so chemically diverse, and to determine the conditions preceding major volcanic eruptions. During his graduate studies, he also worked in science editing; designed experiments to illustrate volcanic processes to K-3 students; taught undergraduates in the classroom and the field; and designed Science Olympiad exercises on rocks and minerals.
