ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is saddened to share the news that colleague and friend Dr. Rodney C. Ewing passed away on July 13, 2024. An AGI Past President (2019-2020), Dr. Ewing received the William B. Heroy Jr. Award for Distinguished Service to AGI (2023) for his exceptional and beneficial long-term service to the Institute and the AGI Medal in Memory of Ian Campbell for Superlative Service to the Geosciences (2015).
AGI is saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Peter T. Flawn, AGI's President from 1987 to 1988. A distinguished geoscientist and scholar, Flawn served twice as president of the University of Texas at Austin, and is remembered for his transformative leadership. He died on May 7, 2017, at age 91.
Science Debate announced that the presidential candidates have responded to their 20 Questions. AGI, with 11 AGI member organizations and 44 other nonpartisan U.S. organizations, called on the Presidential candidates to address 20 questions on the most important science, engineering, technology, health, and environment issues facing the next President.
