Job Summary

This position is located in the Office of Laboratory Animal Science (OLAS), Division of Intramural Clinical and Biological Research (DICBR), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). The Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) Coordinator has responsibility for providing administrative support functions for the OLAS in support of the NIAAA managed Fishers Lane Animal Center (FLAC) and animals maintained and used on NIAAA Animal Study Proposals (ASP).

Major Duties

  • Knowledge of analytical database software to be able to analyze data, generate queries and formulate reports as needed for scientific reviews.
  • Properly interpret and stay current on the laws, regulations, and policies related to animal welfare, review criteria, and other relevant factors related to animal studies.
  • Assist in review of investigations concerning the care and use of animals within the NIAAA program and research facilities resulting from complaints received and from reports of noncompliance.
  • Review ASPs submitted to the NIAAA ACUC to ensure adherence to the humane and ethical principles for use of animals as outlined in the Guide, Public Health Service Policy and Animal Welfare Act regulations.
  • Provide advice regarding the requirements for training of professional and technical staff in areas of animal care and use.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for an Animal Resources Program Coordinator, GS-401 position, you must meet the following education requirement: You must have completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university. OR You must have a combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position, AND have appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position. AND In order to qualify at the GS-11 level, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: interpreting policies, rules, and regulations for animal care programs to scientific staff; preparing and submitting Animal Care and Use Committee program evaluations; analyzing database systems to track Animal Study Proposal activities, animal care and use policies, and training documentation; and developing, implementing, and maintaining database for tracking animal information to include the characteristics of various animal species and strains. Pay Range

$72,030.00 - $93,638.00
