Job Summary

This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Soil & Water Research Laboratory located in Temple, TX.

Major Duties

  • Assist with development or application of model components
  • Development of enhanced natural resource simulation or analysis tools which assist land managers and state and federal agency personnel in decision-making at the farm and watershed level.
  • Assist with development of enhanced simulation methods, interfaces, databases, or web-based systems to support science-based decision making and policy formulation.
  • Resulting research will produce novel methods, machine learning or original computer code for simulating or analyzing: 1) complex agricultural production systems and watersheds utilizing desktop or web-based interfaces, or large scale databases.
  • Development, testing, and validation of novel model components or GIS data to enhance existing natural resources simulation tools and develop new interfaces, web-based applications, and other model related tools.
  • Enhance interface development and web-based delivery systems for existing tools to facilitate use by non-scientists.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Basic Requirements: 0401 Series: Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. AND

In addition to the basic requirement above, all applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications: Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: At the GS-09: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience assisting in the development of tools to assess biological data; assisting in the development of new interfaces or web-based applications; and performing data management duties related to biological or agricultural studies. OR Education: Successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. Related degrees may include biological sciences. OR A combination of graduate education and specialized experience as describe above. At the GS-11: Qualifying experience for GS-11 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-09 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in the development of tools to assess biological data; developing new interfaces or web-based applications; and performing data management duties related to biological or agricultural studies. OR Education: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree if directly related. Related degrees may include the biological sciences. OR A combination of Ph.D. education and specialized experience as described above. At the GS-12: Qualifying experience for GS-12 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-11 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience leading in the development of tools to assess biological; developing new interfaces or web-based applications; and performing data management duties related to biological or agricultural studies. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$51,440.00 - $96,978.00
