Job Summary
This position is located at the Region 1, Regional Office in Missoula, Montana. This position serves as a Regional Biological/Physical Science Information Specialist and is responsible for planning, support, and developing a comprehensive, integrated natural resource information program for the Region. Major Duties
- Assess the analysis needs associated with land and natural resource management at multiple levels.
- Develop resource data standards that will be used to develop analyses and information products.
- Lead initiatives to institutionalize analysis requirements and reporting.
- Design data management policy, procedures, geospatial analysis techniques, technical tool development, and training.
- Coordinate with Regional and National Program Managers, Directors, the National Geospatial Management Office and Northern Region Units to respond to national, regional and local initiatives, with information management processes and products.
- Plan, direct, and supervise a diverse team of geospatial professionals to accomplish the program's goals, ensure team member professional development and sustain a reasonable work-life balance in that process.
- Conduct technical training and technology transfer workshops in data collection, analysis tools and processes in this very dynamic and changing data collection and information management arena.
- Develop and sustain working relationships with representatives of other federal, state, and local agencies to share information and establish partnerships to promote efficiency in multi-agency and shared stewardship operations.
- Supervises less than 20% of the time.

Basic Requirement: GS-0401: Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major field of study that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major. OR Combination of education and experience that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, AND experience sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field needed to perform the work of the occupation. GS-1301: Degree: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-13 grade level: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Professional experience leading and facilitating discussions with managers and/or resource specialists in determining business and technical requirements for the collection, input, storage, and retrieval of natural resource data in support of land management processes; and directing the technical support of deployed applications; or professional experience developing and applying scientific geospatial analytical methods to guide natural resources-related land management decisions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Pay Range
$91,231.00 - $118,603.00
