Job Summary

This position is with the Northern Research Station, Forest Inventory and Analysis, with a duty location of Falcon Heights, MN Serves as a Data Manager for a Forest Service Research unit. Will work independently, or as a member of a team, analyzing, managing, cataloging, and/or archiving environmental data base. Major Duties

  • Provide feedback and recommend changes necessary to develop, improve and enhance the methodologies and natural resource-related databases.
  • Provide database management advice and respond to user requests from partners and other inventory specialists
  • Test information management programs to ensure accurate and statistically consistent operation, identify problems, system and make corrections and improvements.
  • Curate natural resource data by reconciling data inconsistencies and creating metadata records to document changes
  • Provide technical guidance related to biological and/or physical science programs, plans and projects.
  • Provide direction on natural resource issues to ensure project compliance with agency direction and mission.

GS-401

Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. GS-1301:

Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-12: One year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the federal service. To qualify, the experience listed in your application must include all of the following:

Analyzing, managing, cataloging, and/or archiving environmental databases.;

Working with researchers and professional technical staff to improve annotation of databases with descriptive metadata and to provide data to online depositories; AND, Maintaining research data-related websites and content. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Pay Range

$82,484.00 - $107,234.00
