Job Summary
This position is located in the Air Resources Division of the Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate As an trainee, the incumbent performs duties designed to orient the employee in the application of academic theories and principles to natural and/or cultural resources work.
Major Duties
The major duties of the Biologist position include, but are not limited to the following:
- - Prepares specific action plans pertaining to the management and protection of natural resources.
- - Develops and maintains liaisons and effective working relations with related groups and individuals.
- - Follows established protocols, coordinates park's natural resource strategies and programs.
- - Carries out statistically valid data collection protocols for the monitoring of plant and animal communities.
- - Prepares management and scientific reports regarding the results of protection, mitigation, restoration, inventory, monitoring, and research activities.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-04/15/2020-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount qualified specialized experience. For the 401-Biologist Series you must meet the Basic Requirements listed below:
1. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

2. Combination of education and experience. Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to the 401 series, you must meet the following Specialized Experience: To qualify for the position at the GS-5 grade level, you only need to meet the Basic Requirements listed above. To qualify for this position at the GS- 7 grade level, your experience must include all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include all of the following: Professional knowledge of natural and/or cultural resources, principles, and concepts; and the ability to apply standard practices, methods and techniques.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 1 year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Pay Range
$38,283.00 - $61,643.00
