Job Summary
: The position is assigned to the Planning and Policy Branch, Environmental Analysis Section in the Water Resources Division. Prepare National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance documents that describe environmental conditions and describe potential environmental impacts of proposed projects to environmental resources and any water permits.
Major Duties
- Provides fundamental principles and techniques of environmental sciences, including those associated with mitigation, preservation, and impact analysis.
- Supports plan formulation including ecological modeling for ecosystem restoration projects.
- Prepares technical environmental reports including NEPA compliance documents (Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Statements) for civil works water resource projects.
- Obtains required permits, certifications, and approvals including but not limited to Coastal Barrier Resources Act determinations, U.S. Coast Guard permits, and Certificates and 404 Permits for state and federal Agencies.
- Serves as plan formulator for ecosystem restoration projects which includes development of project alternatives and conducting ecomodeling analyses to assess project environmental benefits.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Biologist A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized experience 7: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes in gathering environmental data for assessment and reports with the public and local agencies and assist in preparing permits pre-application for meetings with regulatory agencies. Specialized experience 9: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes assist in prepare environmental reports, assessment, and statement o proposed projects and complied data for onsite field inspections and modeling analyses. and prepare permits and conduct meeting with regulatory agencies and exercise discretion with representing data on environmental projects. Specialized experience 11: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which includes prepare National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) compliance documents that describe environmental conditions and describe potential environmental impacts of proposed projects to environmental resources and any water permits not limited to Coastal Barrier Resources, coast guard permits clear water act and have experience in restoration projected and conduct ecological modeling and assessments. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
