Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to perform specified portions of scientific work involving studies of the functions, environmental response, biological activities, and/or processes of humans and animals, and their component parts.
Major Duties
- Perform biological and related fields support work in various scientific and public health areas.
- Perform recurring, well-precedented standard techniques to identify and characterize biological and/or other agents that cause a number of diseases.
- Perform and interpret a variety of molecular and biochemical tests to identify or determine the presence of microorganisms.
- Ensure proper collection of data and conducts experiments and studies, making adjustments in methods and procedures as appropriate during the course of the studies or experiments.
- Perform and monitor the full range of specialized tests and non-routine procedures for which there are standard methods and techniques.
- Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments that are necessary to perform specialized tests, analyses and other standard procedures in conducting experiments and studies.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications: A. Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include laboratory and field experience conducting scientific studies relating to infectious diseases (e.g. vector-borne bacterial diseases, performing test for the detection of infectious microorganisms spreaded by fleas or ticks). OR Completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a masters degree or masters or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the duties of the position. OR Combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
Pay Range
$52,905.00 - $75,408.00
