Major Duties
- Perform experiments in accordance with approved methods and procedures. Critically analyze results of experiments to determine whether data generated are accurate and valid.
- Discuss scope and objectives of the research project with the research scientist. Recommend methods and assist the scientist in designing the experiment.
- Advise the scientist of the methods to be used and estimate time and resources required with investigator.
- Coordinate activities with the veterinary and animal care staff.
- Collect, organize, and record experimental data in a form suitable for publication.
- Review results of experiments for reliability and compare with data from similar experiments.
- Maintain an awareness of current research and new methodological developments in the field.
- Ensure that laboratory equipment is available when needed, is properly calibrated and in working order. Perform routine maintenance and repair of equipment.
Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Biologist, GS-401 position you must meet the following Education Requirements:Have completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university;
OR
Have a combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position, AND I have appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position. In addition, in order to qualify at the GS-9 level, you must meet the following:
You must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: performing experiments in accordance with approved methods and procedures; preparing detailed plans for experiments and procedures to be performed; analyzing experimental data and drawing tentative conclusions and using and maintaining a variety of laboratory instruments and ensuring laboratory equipment is calibrated and in working order;
OR
Have completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree;
OR
Have a combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. Pay Range
$59,534.00 - $77,396.00
