Job Summary

The incumbent for this position performs biological science work or support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.

Major Duties

  • Process, embed, and section human and animal tissue for routine paraffin histology.
  • Perform routine and special histochemical stain and immunohistochemical stain.
  • Perform various techniques to rapidly identify and characterize biological and/or other agents that cause a number of diseases.
  • Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments that are necessary to independently perform tests, analyses and other procedures in conducting experiments and studies.
  • Prepares reports on scientific investigations, studies and projects.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in performing paraffin histology, including processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining formalin-fixed tissues.

Pay Range

$74,596.00 - $105,890.00
