Job Summary

The incumbent serves as a Biologist performing specified portions of scientific work involving studies of the functions, environmental response, biological activities, and/or processes of humans and animals, and their component parts.

Major Duties

As a Biologist (Direct Hire), you will:

  • Identify methods and procedures to collect data, conduct experiments and studies adjusting the methods and procedures as appropriate during the studies or experiments.
  • Modify standard study methods, requirements, practices, and/or techniques to existing guides to address current and evolving issues.
  • Perform routine tests, procedures and activities to resolve a variety of problems, questions, or conditions in accordance with established precedents, laboratory/clinical practices and procedures.
  • Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments to perform tests, analyses and other procedures in conducting biological experiments and studies.
  • Identify unusual or unexpected results and their probable causes from data collected from biological studies.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

Degree: Applicant must has a bachelor's or higher degree that includes the major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Minimum Qualifications:

GS-11

In addition to meeting the basic qualification requirements: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-9 grade level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include performing biological science work or support work in various scientific and public health areas to identify and characterize biological and/or other agents that cause diseases.

OR

Have completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education or possess a PhD or equivalent graduate degree in a field that is directly related to the duties of this position.

OR

Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. GS-12

In addition to meeting the basic qualification requirements: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience involving scientific studies of the functions, environmental response, biological activities, and/or processes of humans and animals, and their component parts of scientific works.

Pay Range

$67,437.00 - $105,083.00
