What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? Salary: $52,759 (Step 01) to $68,581(Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired atthe Step 01. Major Duties
As a Biologist within the Western Ecological Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:
- Conduct field and lab studies and surveys to collect data on the ecology and habitats of reptiles, amphibians, and bats.
- Plan and lead field studies for the capture, measuring, and marking of wildlife, and quantifying their habitats for study.
- Apply concepts of wildlife biology and research.
- Compile, organize, and summarize field and lab data and helps prepare and edit project reports and presentations.

In addition to the basic education requirements, applicants may qualify based on 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Examples include:1) properly handling giant gartersnakes, and training others in handling techniques.2) evaluatingsnakes for health and marking them. 3)taking detailed measurements, and collecting sick, injured, or dead snakes.4) applying biological concepts and basic principles in related natural science fields; collecting basic field investigation data; preparing and operating equipment that collects samples and biologic data; preparing samples; and analyzing, compiling and computing biological data.
