Job Summary

What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? Salary: $51,440 (Step 01) to $66,868 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired atthe Step 01. There is one vacancy; however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.

Major Duties

As a Biologist within the Southwest Biological Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

-Participates in the planning and execution of complex studies on the response of biological soil crusts and plants of the Colorado Plateau to climate and land use.

-Plans, organizes and implements biological investigations.

-Performs data analysis including data summarization, statistical analyses, and writing code using R.

-Use field and lab equipment to collect data.

-Conduct literature reviews, summarize research findings and prepare tables and graphs, presents results at regional conferences, write reports and publish articles.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The work requires some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Work is performed in an office, laboratory, and in the field. Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of outdoor work.

In

addition to the basic education requirements, if you are qualifying based on specialized experience, you must meet the requirements listed below:

One year of appropriate professional experience in biology that is equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Examples of GS-07 level work may include: 1) assisting with planning, organizing, and implementing scientific investigations; 2) performing data analyses on portions of larger scientific investigations; 3) and receiving training in gathering, organizing, and interpreting biological, ecological, pathological, public use, or other information pertinent to scientific studies and/or scientific investigations. For examples 1-3, the work involved following established methods and procedures, or detailed instructions; using some judgment in applying basic principles and procedures; solving minor problems and making routine decisions.

Pay Range

$51,440.00 - $66,868.00
