Job Summary

What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? The government-wide direct hire authority for Biologist is being used to fill this position. Salary: $78,081 (Step 01) to $101,503 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired atthe Step 01. There is one vacancy; however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.

Major Duties

As a Biologist within the Western Ecological Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:

-Conduct field studies and surveys to collect data on the ecology and habitats of bats.

-Plan and lead field studies for the capture, measuring and marking of bats, and quantifying their habitats for study.

-Understand and has experience in applying the concepts of wildlife biology and research.

-Compile, organize and summarize field and lab data and help prepare and edit project reports and presentations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work requires physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Extreme temperature and weather may be encountered in the performance of field work. Field and laboratory duties may require the use of special protective gear.

Qualifications

For information on basic qualifications, which includes information on whether you may substitute education for specialized experience, please click on the following: https://www.usgs.gov/about/organization/science-support/human-capital/biologist-gs-0401Inaddition to the basic education requirements, you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.

Examples of experience at the GS-09 level work may include: 1) participation in the planning and execution of biological studies with limited number of variables; 2) performing established, standardized tests and analyses on a broad range of biological samples; 3) conducting biological studies using established fact finding procedures. For examples 1-3, assignments were made with the objectives, priorities, and deadlines defined. The work was planned and carried out independently in accordance with proven techniques, methods, and practices. Controversial use of approaches or modifications of standard procedures were typically discussed with a designated person before being carried out.

Pay Range

$78,081.00 - $101,503.00
