Job Summary

What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? Salary: $93,587 (Step 01) to $121,668 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired atthe Step 01. There is one vacancy; however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.

Major Duties

As a Biologist within the Western Ecological Research Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Conduct Field and lab studies and surveys to collect data on the ecology and habitats of wetland-dependent reptiles and amphibians.
  • Plan and lead field studies for the capture, measuring and marking of wetland-dependent wildlife, and quantifying their habitats for study.
  • Apply the concepts of wildlife biology and research.
  • Compile, organize and summarizes field and lab data.
  • Prepare and edit project reports and presentations.

In

addition to the basic education requirements, you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level in the federal Service.

To be basically qualified for this position, applicants must meet the OPM qualification standard (above) and the following selective factor(s): Possession of or name-listed on a federal permit for threatened and endangered species issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for giant gartersnakes and San Francisco gartersnakes.

GS-12:One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience: 1) independently planning and conducting comprehensive biological studies and investigations; 2) modifying and adapting standard biological techniques, processes, and procedures; 3) serving as a technical resource on biological issues; 4) properly handling giant gartersnakes, and San Francisco gartersnakes. For examples 1-3, the assignments were planned and carried out independently, resolving most of the conflicts that arose, coordinating the work with others as necessary, relating new work situations to precedent ones, extending or modifying existing techniques, and interpreting and applying program policy in terms of established objectives.
