This position is located in the Biomarker and Genomic Sciences Group, BBD, MML, NIST in Gaithersburg, MD. Are you ready to explore your future with NIST? Major Duties

The incumbent will support the NIST program in human genomic DNA reference materials and data; work with NIST staff and members of the Genome in a Bottle Consortium to analyze and determine the quality of large data sets from different DNA sequencing methods; and will use computer programs to determine the quality of the data and produce benchmark data for the human genome DNA sequences for the NIST Genome in a Bottle Reference materials.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. OR

Master’s or equivalent graduate degree

IN ADDITION: To qualify, applicant must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level (or ZP-II at NIST). Specialized experience with human genetics, biology, and computer applications for DNA analysis; and experience in the analysis of analysis of human DNA sequencing data sets using computer programs to benchmark human DNA reference sequences. NOTE: Education and experience may be combined for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Pay Range

$72,030.00 - $112,240.00
