Job Summary

What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? Salary: $76,721 (Step 01) to $99,741 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired atthe Step 01. There is one vacancy; however, this announcement may be used to fill additional vacancies if they become available.

Major Duties

As a Biologist within the Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Plans and conducts studies and investigations concerning biological, chemical, and physical processes that affect ecology, fishery, and/or wildlife resources.
  • Carries out investigations of ecological, fishery and/or wildlife conservation, preservation, and propagation issues.
  • Conducts statistical analyses of large, complex data sets using statistical programs.
  • Conducts project analyses and reviews results of studies or investigations.
  • Writes and publishes scientific findings in reports, and professional, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Operates a government vehicle as an incidental driver.

Physical Demands:

The work requires some physical exertion such as walking over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; and bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. The work requires moderate physical ability and average agility and dexterity.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office, laboratory, and/or in the field. The office is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Temperature and weather extremes may be encountered in the performance of outdoor work. Field and laboratory work may require the use of special protective gear.

Examples of experience at the GS-11 level may include: 1) independently planning and conducting comprehensive biological studies and investigations; 2) modifying and adapting standard biological techniques, processes, and procedures; 3) serving as a technical resource on biological issues. For examples 1-3, the assignments were planned and carried out independently, resolving most of the conflicts that arose, coordinating the work with others as necessary, relating new work situations to precedent ones, extending or modifying existing techniques, and interpreting and applying program policy in terms of established objectives.

Pay Range

$76,721.00 - $99,741.00
