Job Summary
Two positions will be filled from this announcement. Both positions are located on the Monongahela National Forest. One duty location is Parsons, WV and the other is Marlinton, WV. Primary duties include supporting managers and resource specialists in the use of geospatial technology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for land, natural resources and ecosystem management activities. Major Duties
- Responsibilities listed below are at the full performance level.
- Compile natural resource, topographic and cartographic data to create thematic map products.
- Participate in applying geospatial analysis processes, protocols and solutions to address mission critical resource management issues.
- Present cartographic materials to aid in preparation of environmental and social assessments, environmental impact statements and other natural resource projects.
- Operate complex computer systems and software to produce detailed maps and graphics to complete natural resource projects.
- Perform multi-resource analysis to support planning, analysis and monitoring activities.
- Conduct informal training to assist geographic information systems software users.
- Use knowledge of natural resource and land management operations to support multiple disciplines including recreation, silviculture, wildlife, hydrology, engineering, etc.
- Develop data dictionaries, data models and metadata to support multi-disciplinary information and geospatial applications.
- Serve on multiple interdisciplinary teams to conduct NEPA analysis which require collaboration with personnel inside and outside of the agency, state and local agencies, private organizations, and other expert personnel.

Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-8 grade level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include: Completed and updated metadata records for geospatial data sets; Collected geospatial and resource data using manual and technology assisted methods; Used standard operations and scripted processes to manipulate and analyze geospatial data to support resource management decisions; Used Geographic Information System (GIS) software and cartographic tools to create simple thematic and reference maps. For the GS-9 grade level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-8). Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of specialized experience include: Supported managers and resource specialists in the use of geospatial and Geographic Information System (GIS) technology; Developed data dictionaries, data models and metadata for geospatial applications; Manipulate and analyze geospatial data to support resource management decisions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Pay Range
$47,899.00 - $68,777.00
