Job Summary

This position is assigned to a Remote Sensing Laboratory (RSL), with a duty station of Portland OR (West RSL), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The mission of NRCS is to provide leadership in a partnership effort to help people conserve, maintain and improve their natural resources and environment.

Major Duties

  • Performs various data collection activities using remote sensing photo interpretation techniques
  • Downloads and uploads digital data
  • Captures segment and point data to meet production schedules
  • Performs local data collection integration by comparing remotely sensed data and field collected data
  • Performs image-to-image registration of scanned aerial photography using established agency protocols
  • Build single and multiple digital image mosaics to represent a spatially accurate contiguous landscape using Geographic Information System (GIS) software
  • Identifies, documents and reports spatial accuracy deficiencies or issues that do not meet minimum standards.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. Time in grade: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-05 grade level for consideration for the GS-06 grade level). Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-06 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. This experience must include experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include: Conducting image interpretations and registration Constructing site and support maps Assisting with other data collection functions (e.g. completing inventories); Time in grade: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade to be considered for the next higher grade (e.g. one year at the GS-06 grade level for consideration for the GS-07 grade level). Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS-07 level, you must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level or higher in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. This experience must include experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include: Conducting image interpretations and registration Constructing site and support maps Identifying and resolving discrepancies among source materials Assisting with other data collection functions (e.g. completing inventories). Note: There is no education substitution for the GS-06 OR 07 level. Pay Range

$41,536.00 - $59,999.00
