Job Summary

This position is located in the U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers, Galveston District, Engineering and Construction Division located in Galveston, TX. NOTE: A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized.

Major Duties

  • Provide technical engineering support for various civil projects.
  • Coordinates preparation of plans and specifications with other sections, responds to Biddability, Constructibility and Operability review comments, and answers ITR review comments related to work of General Engineering Section.
  • Drafts specifications where guide or precedent specifications do not fully or adequately cover design.
  • Reviews and processes addenda and modifications to contracts, plans and specifications.
  • Actively participates in studies to determine the most feasible, economical and environmentally acceptable plans to provide equal facilities, and in the determination of costs to be borne by private and/or Government interests.
  • Designs and study drawings required are in sufficient detail to determine principal design features and estimated costs for the projects for inclusion in engineering reports, design memoranda and for use in negotiations with owners.

Degree: professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal Service performing:

1) Experience performing engineering studies and design relating to design, layout, and construction of facilities, dredge disposal and flood control structures and 2) Experience coordinating engineering plans and specification with various entities (i.e., contractors, engineers, federal and state officials) and 3) Experience conducting relocations and alterations projects. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Pay Range

$85,475.00 - $111,122.00
