Job Summary
This position is located in the Office of Port Infrastructure Development, Office of the Associate Administrator for Ports & Waterways, Maritime Administration (MARAD). This position is established to review, assess, and manage marine infrastructure development projects that are subject to federal oversight.
Major Duties
As a Civil Engineer, you will:
- Apply a wide range of engineering theories, concepts, principles, standards, and methods for a wide range of assignments.
- Provide advice relative to civil engineering. Participates in and makes contributions to management decisions in assigned program areas.
- Provide guidance and oversight of the planning, designing, constructing of projects and programs involving aids and grants.
- Provide management and oversight of projects conducted through contracts, grants, or cooperative agreements related to port infrastructure development.
- Prepare reports and maintain records of work accomplishments and administrative information as required, and coordinate the preparation, presentation, and communication of work-related information to the supervisor.
This position is ideal for a junior-level civil engineer who possesses excellent communication skills, analytical and technical skills with experience in a small group oriented environment within a port infrastructure program.
Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet either the education or specialized experience requirements for the grade at which you are requesting consideration. To qualify for the GS-09 on Experience, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-07,it must include: Experience with civil engineering of infrastructure projects; applying principles and practices of maritime related civil engineering; and collaborating within a team oriented environment. To qualify for the GS-09 on Education alone, you must have: At least 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or have been awarded a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
You can also qualify based on a combination of graduate education and experience. This must be fully supported by your resume and transcripts, provided with your application. To qualify on for the GS-11 on Experience, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-09, it must include: Experience with civil engineering of infrastructure projects; applying principles and practices of maritime related civil engineering; and collaborating within a team oriented environment. To qualify for the GS-11 on Education alone, you must have: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
You can also qualify based on a combination of higher level graduate education and experience. This must be fully supported by your resume and transcripts, provided with your application. To qualify on for the GS-12,you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-11, it must include: Experiencewith civil engineering of infrastructure projects; applying principles and practices of maritime related civil engineering; and collaborating within a team oriented environment. You cannot qualify on education at this level, you must have experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Pay Range
$57,510.00 - $108,422.00
