Job Summary

Reclamation is seeking aprofessional, recent graduate, or graduating student to serve as aCivil Engineer assisting with meeting the increasing water demands of the West while protecting the environment and the public's interest. Position is located with the Bureau of Reclamation, Lower ColoradoRegion, Phoenix Area Office,Engineering Division, Design and Construction Branch, located in Glendale, AZ Relocationnot authorized. Additional positions maybe filled.

Major Duties

Performs engineering analysis and evaluation of conventional projects assigned, including potential alternatives for appraisal and feasibility studies.

Reviews project plans and specifications to identify issues affecting practicability from construction standpoint on the development and efficiency of assigned projects.

Prepares designs for conventional features; evaluates impacts caused by changed external conditions on existing standard features associated with a variety of water resource systems.

Performs civil engineering design functions for the construction of new structures or facilities, or the rehabilitation or modification of existing structures and systems of limited difficulty or complexity.

Prepares formal and informal technical engineering reports relative to assignments. Prepares sketches, drawings and such graphics as may be necessary in the preparation of data for formal and informal engineering reports.

Works with higher-graded engineers on projects of greater complexity and scope, performing a variety of developmental duties as levels of knowledge and experience increase.

Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirement:Applicants must meet the Basic Education Qualification Requirements listed below:A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. *OR* B. Combination of education and experience - college level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following (see U.S. Office of Personnel Management qualifications standards operating manual for specifics): (1) professional registration or licensure; (2) written test (FE exam or other written test required for professional registration); (3) specified academic courses; (4) related curriculum.

Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed outside the United States, applicants must show proof that the education has been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign educational credentials and such education has been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs.In addition to meeting Basic Education:To qualify for the GS-5 level:You must meet the minimum education required as stated above under Minimum Education Requirement.To qualify for the GS-7:Your resume must reflect one year of full time experienceequivalent in difficulty to the GS-5 gradelevel in Federal Service. Conditions of Employment: Professional Registration Requirement: In order to be eligible to be promoted to the GS-12 grade level, this position requires Professional Engineering Registration as a condition of employment. Professional Registration is not required at the lower grade levels.

Pay Range

$50,193.00 - $73,348.00
