Job Summary
This position is located in the Western Federal Lands Highway Division (WFLHD) Highway Design Branch of the Federal Highway Administration. You will serve as the Systems Coordinator Engineer within WFLHD for highway engineering software systems and engineeringquality standards, policies, and practices. You will be responsible for managing the overall software infrastructure, processes, and practices needed to design and administer highway construction projects.
Major Duties
The Civil Engineer:
- Manages engineering systems to ensure hardware, software, and support mechanisms facilitate accomplishing the agency mission.
- Oversees the customization and standardization of design software to achieve optimum performance and to maximize the productivity of the highway design staff and CAD operators.
- Analyzes site conditions in conjunction with scope of project and establishes protocols for data collection to ensure accuracies and densities are consistent with project elements and construction risk.
- Works with software developers on software development, enhancements, and maintenance processes to further Federal Lands Highway design operations.
- Develops, prepares, and presents training courses, written guidance, and hands-on instruction to users.
- Uses knowledge of engineering theory and principles to review and interpret 3D engineered models to ensure standards were correctly applied and that results accomplish project goals and represent sound engineering.
- Provides guidance and/or develops designs for emergent project issues. Analyzes conditions, evaluates risks, and applies knowledge to develop designs.
The ideal candidate is an engineer with extensive experience developing designs and PS&E packages using CAD software and managing CAD systems for agencies or firms associated with design and construction of roadways and bridges; experience teaching others how to use software; and experience troubleshooting software issues and working with developers to solve CAD issues.
Qualifications
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements.
To qualify for the Grade 12, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-11 it must include: Experience applying engineering principles in the design of highway projects and development of Plans, Specifications, and Estimate (PS&E) packages using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software, engineer’s estimating and/or other software.Experience presenting technical guidance and conducting training one-on-one and/or in group settings.
Experience using Bentley OpenRoads Designer CONNECT edition or similar software. Pay Range
$81,875.00 - $106,442.00
