Job Summary
This position is located in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Philadelphia District, Engineering & Construction Division, Engineering Branch, H&H Section, located in Philadelphia PA. This position has full responsibility for the development of in-house and A/E planning and engineering documents for coastal protection and navigation projects.
Major Duties
- Prepare and/or review designs, layouts, analyses and reports relative to beach erosion control, storm protection and navigation works.
- Determine the applicable hydraulic design criteria for the structures and channels involved. Makes preliminary appraisal of the type of work required and what it should accomplish.
- Develop the design of protective beach berms and dunes littoral drift basins, sand bypassing structures and pumping plants, surge suppression structures.
- Perform appropriate computations gathers, extracts and analyses data from a wide variety of sources. Conceptualizes and lays out the project systems and then develops the design analyses with justifying methods and computations.
- Establish coastal modeling baseline inputs such as topography and bathymetry, wave and water level parameters per standard modeling guidance and protocols.
- Meet with federal, state and local government officials to reconcile plans and needs with project systems under design. Maintains contact with private consulting firms to assure compatibility on joint Construction projects.
- Confer, collaborates with and provides technical guidance to the Architect/Engineer in the design of and preparation of project documents for coastal projects. Approve or disapprove changes as necessary to improve the design.
- Participate in or develops study costs estimates, schedules/task descriptions and scopes of work for a wide range of coastal and navigational studies from reconnaissance level to construction plans and specifications for both in-house and A/E work.

In addition to meeting the basic education requirement below, to qualify for this position you must also meet the experience requirement listed below. Your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this position. Experience is defined as one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level of GS-12 in the Federal Service performing the following duties: (1) Report on beach erosion control, storm protection and navigation works requirements; (2) Developed design parameters in areas similar to protective beach berms and dunes, littoral drift basins, sand by passing structures, pumping plants, and surge suppression structures; (3) Determined applicable hydraulic design criteria for the structures and channels involved; and (4) Established coastal modeling baseline inputs such as topography and bathymetry, wave and water level parameters per standard modeling guidance and protocols. Pay Range
$99,170.00 - $128,924.00
