Job Summary
This is a developmental position providing training designed to lead to a full performance position in Civil Engineering. This position is being filled under the Direct Hire Authority for Post-Secondary Students and Recent Graduates.
Major Duties
- Using established calculations to compute quantifies, dimensions, estimates, etc.
- Testing material, equipment, or systems for compliance with specifications or for evaluation in terms of operational use.
- Reviewing technical aspects of applications, designs, or proposed plans for compliance with laws, regulations, standards, specifications, quality criteria or other requirements and criteria.
Qualifications
Positions are open to: Recent graduates who have completed, within the previous two years, a qualifying associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution. Short-term training programs (e.g. several two-week programs completed) are not considered an academic course of study. Current students who will graduate no later than 31 December 2020 Preference eligible veterans who were precluded from applying due to their military service obligation begin their two-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty. Eligibility for these veterans cannot exceed six years after degree or certificate completion Applicants will be selected at the GS-05. The target grade of this position is GS-11. After Program completion, Department of the Army Recent Graduates MAY be converted to a permanent position or to a term position (a project-based term of employment lasting between one and four years). To be eligible for conversion to a permanent or term position, Recent Graduates must: Be a U.S. Citizen Successfully complete all the requirements of the Recent Graduate Program as defined in the Agency Participant Agreement. Demonstrate successful job performance. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Civil Engineer (Recent Graduates):
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); OR (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
