Job Summary

You will serve as a CIVIL ENGINEER (STRUCTURAL) in the BUSINESS DIRECTORATE, CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. The position provides engineering and design services to all activities and tenants for a broad range of facilities. This includes a large number of customer activities with varied missions, dispersed over a sizable geographical region with numerous facility types, ranging from administrative and housing facilities to very complex industrial and operational facilities.

Major Duties

  • You will develop engineering project scopes to ensure projects are justifiable and support the mission and operational requirements of the command.
  • You will assess structural condition of facilities to develop recommendations for necessary repairs and modifications.
  • You will design structural systems to construct facility components.
  • You will prepare designs, drawings, sketches, or work directives for construction projects.
  • You will compose technical correspondence to communicate designs, plans, and objectives to management officials, staff, and customers.

Qualifications

This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: Be a current registered Professional Engineer (PE) in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. NOTE: A copy of you PE license/registration must be submitted with your application package or you will be rated as ineligible. In addition to the Basic Education Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Developing structural engineering design documents for new construction projects and for renovation projects; 2) Preparing structural engineering calculations in support of structural engineering designs for new construction and renovation projects; 3) Developing design drawings including, but not limited to Foundation Plans, Floor and Roof Framing Plans, Elevations, Sections and Details for diverse building systems and types; and 4) Preparing statements of work and fee estimates for structural design projects drawing, specifications, and reports for compliance to codes and standards.**NOTE** This information must be clearly supported in your resume. Pay Range

$85,865.00 - $111,629.00
