MAJOR DUTIES
- Assists a Drill Rig Operator in performance of assigned duties.
- Helps set up, align, operate and maintain drilling machines, drilling support equipment and drilling systems, including a variety of top head rotary drill rigs, rig tenders, core barrels and drill rods.
- Sets casing or reinforcing materials.
- Fuels and lubricates before or during operations and helps clean, lubricate, adjust and repair equipment when not operating.
- Safety is a critical component of this job. Work requires wearing personal protective equipment such as hardhat, steel-toed boots, safety glasses, sleeved shirts and long pants even in extreme heat. A safety harness will be worn at all times while working in the crow’s nest, helper’s deck or while more than 4 feet above the ground. The incumbent is responsible for complying with safety instructions and regulations, ensuring individual’s safety, and promptly reporting unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and accidents to supervisor.

Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily outdoors, and therefore the employee is exposed to temperature extremes from -20 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit, and dirt, dust, mud, rain, snow and ice (field work 95% of time). There is a constant possibility of injury to self and other employees of the work crew if proper safety procedures are not followed. Incumbent will work a variety of schedules, including longer than normal workdays, and weekends and holidays as required (usually shifts are 10 days on/4 days off, 10-12 work hours per day).

Physical Effort: Work is extremely physical and involves handling, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, carrying and moving heavy drilling equipment. There are also prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, pushing, climbing, reaching and pulling.

Conditions of Employment:
- You are required to possess and maintain a valid, State-issued driver's license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a forklift certification, and a fall protection and rescue certification within 90 days of appointment.
* Your appointment will be terminated if you fail to meet these requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements. You must meet at least 2 points of the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$17.78 - $20.71
