Major Duties
- Serves as an environmental technical expert in the Agency and prepares and issues policies, establishes priorities, validates requirements and offers professional guidance to comply with major environmental laws and regulations.
- Provides technical review of all new commodity and elemental acquisitions for the stockpile to determine environmental and safety hazards. Advises management on concerns, risks, and necessary operational controls.
- Serves as the primary reviewer of all Strategic Material proposed actions for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
- Coordinates the preparation of annual cost-to-complete and environmental liabilities efforts.
- Serves as an Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health Management System (ESOHMS) technical expert, maintaining programs and writing a wide variety of plans and other documents.
- Provides support guidance and program management for sustainability, environmental remediation, and a wide range of other environmental projects that may develop.
- Conducts environmental audits to assess the compliance of field activities for conformance with all Federal, State, and local environmental laws and regulations, executive orders.
- Conducts audits conformance with all elements of an Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Management System (ESOHMS).
- Manages, stores, and maintains a wide range of documentation for environmental activities. Serves as an Accounts Receivable Official (ARO) in electronic business system (EBS) for Military Interdepartmental Purchase Requests (MIPRs).
Qualifications
To qualify for an Environmental Protection Specialist your resume and supporting documentation must support: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: - Applying a variety of environmental protection laws, regulations, principles, and practices applicable to the environmental management responsibilities for an installation. - Planning, organizing and directing an environmental protection program and management system. - Administering an environmental program involving such areas as restoration or compliance. - Developing, analyzing, evaluating and recommending modification of environmental programs, policies and procedures Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Pay Range
$102,663.00 - $133,465.00
