Job Summary
Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) Medical and Environmental Management Division seeks an Environmental Engineer to help ensure Center compliance with various environmental program requirements. This position is responsible to perform a full spectrum of environmental engineering and compliance Oversight of Center activities to identify compliance requirements, assess compliance status, and plan and implement compliance solutions.
Major Duties
- Perform general environmental compliance duties, with an emphases on air quality compliance. Work with and assist higher-grade Center environmental program manages with routine compliance monitoring and reporting in assigned program areas.
- Assist with project/program management activities, including communicating issues and coordinating with Division staff and other Center organizations.
- Review laws and regulation related to environmental planning, protection, conservation, and stewardship to help assess Center environmental compliance and performance.
- Provide input for environmental policy and legislative changes, research requirements, perform technical evaluations, and make engineering and compliance recommendations.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with Division staff, other Center organizations, and regulatory agency staff.
- Participate in planning and engineering design reviews for construction, research, development, and operational projects/activities to provide input on activities that could potentially impact the environment.
- Exercise technical knowledge of facilities, systems, or equipment to correctly evaluate problem resolution alternatives or the risk associated with using or replacing a nonconforming process or component
- Maintain technical insight into the cause and plan of action when damaged, failed, or nonconforming facilities, systems, or equipment are identified.
- Help integrate various study and analysis results into technical briefings, reports, and technical papers.
- Assist in performing site compliance inspections, environmental conformance audits, and preparation and monitoring of corrective actions.
- Assist program managers with coordination and liaison with other Center organizations, NASA Centers, and Federal/state/local agencies.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing to prepare and provide briefings to the Division, provide input on work status, and prepare letters and reports.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. To qualify for the GS-09:One year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level includes environmental protection laws and regulations, and research and evaluation of environmental compliance in one or more of the areas of air emissions, drinking water, wastewater quality, industrial wastewater discharge, storm water discharge, regulated waste management, environmental sustainability, natural resources, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental planning, and Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) reporting.OR2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.ORA combination of education and experience described above.To qualify for the GS-11:One year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level includes general knowledge and application of environmental engineering and compliance program elements in one or more of the areas of air emissions, drinking water, wastewater quality, industrial wastewater discharge, storm water discharge, regulated waste management, environmental sustainability, natural resources, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) environmental planning, and Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) reporting. OR3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degreeORA combination of education and experience described above.
Pay Range
$59,534.00 - $93,638.00
