Job Summary

This position serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist for the Office of Detroit Airports (DET-ARP), Great Lakes Region in support of the Airport Improvement Program (AIP).

Major Duties

This position serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist for the Office of Airports (ARP), Detroit Airports District Office (DET-ADO), in the Great Lakes Region, in support of the Airport Improvement Program (AIP).

Performs a mixture of basic and routine (but progressively more difficult) assignments under the close direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader or more experienced technical specialist. Assists other employees or acts as an individual contributor and/or member of a team.

Applies basic technical knowledge and limited experience to accomplish assignments. Assists more experienced EPS's in data gathering for NEPA and other federal environmental laws for airport development and planning projects. These services include, but are not limited to: tracking the environmental analysis, agency consultation, public involvement and preparation of environmental documents in accordance with NEPA and FAA requirements . These include Categorical Exclusions (CATEX), Environmental Assessments (EA), Findings of No Significant Impacts (FONSI), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and Records of Decisions (ROD).

Collects information to be used by more experienced EPS's in preparing correspondence including Congressional correspondence, briefing papers, approval letters and guidance to sponsors associated with all aspects of airport development. Coordinates with a manager, project/program manager, team leader or more experienced technical specialist to plan time and use assigned resources to accomplish assignments.

Contacts are primarily internal to the organizational unit with a manager and Established policies/procedures provide detailed guidance for almost all assignments, with little or no room for discretions. Works with other employees to share information, provide data and/or written analyses and to discuss the status of assignments. May have regular contact with customers and/or external organizations.

Regularly refers problems and work issues with a manager, project/program manager, team leader or more experienced technical specialist when existing guidelines are not available or applicable.

Work is reviewed frequently during assignments and at completion for all aspects of quality.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the FV-G pay band, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-F, FG/GS-5-9. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.Qualifications must be met by the closing date of this vacancy announcement.Some, all, or none of the applicants may be interviewed.

Pay Range

$58,976.00 - $91,420.00
