Job Summary

As an Environmental Protection Specialist you are responsible for providing oversight and technical consultation on all environmental, health, safety and security issues with the goal of providing and ensuring a safe and healthful environment at the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF).

Major Duties

  • The duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Ensure compliance with environmental issues that directly affect regulatory compliance, the health and safety of personnel, and the well-being of the surrounding community.
  • Ensures that potential deficiencies are effectively and immediately addressed.
  • Participates in and assists in implementing environmental management directives and policies as detailed in Executive Order 13834.
  • Leader of the program Environmental Management System (EMS) Committee and ensures the EMS program is implemented using ISO 14001 standards.
  • Creates databases, spreadsheets and organizational systems as needed to ensure immediate access to environmental compliance records and documents.
  • Tracks environmental permits issued to the program to ensure adherence to the monitoring, record keeping, and reporting requirements.
  • Prepares reports in accordance with permit requirements ensuring that data contained therein is accurate and complete.
  • Works with State and Local environmental laws, regulations and ordinances, federal Executive Orders and departmental and agency environmental plans and policies.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. FOR THE GS-12 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-11 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates: Working with environmental regulations to include but not limited to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, and the Occupational Safety and Health Act. Participating in the development of Environmental Management System (EMS) targets, goals, and objectives OR working to achieve EMS targets, goals, and objectives. Creating or maintaining databases, spreadsheets, or organizational systems to ensure immediate access to environmental compliance records and documents. Participating in inspections or assessments of facility environmental compliance programs. Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$74,596.00 - $96,978.00
