Major Duties
As a an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will:
- Provide advisory assistance to Branch Chief as it relates to the development, implementation, and maintenance of coal mining regulatory and abandoned mine land programs in the Region.
- Review, analyze, and initiate documents related to the State program amendment process to ensure documents are complete, accurate, and conform with the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSMRE) regulations and policies.
- Provide assistant to the Field Solicitor in conducting legal analyses.
- Assist in implementing the National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) for the Regional/Field Offices and ensures that all NEPA requirements are met regarding reclamation actions and comparative activities with other agencies
Qualifications
Applicant must possess one year of specialized experience with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, that are typically in or directly related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable pay band system. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Specialized Experience is defined as: Experience evaluating environmental programs for compliance with Federal and State regulatory requirements; developing and/or monitoring the implementation of State and Tribal programs/policies; keeping informed of litigation involving National Environmental Policy Act to assure programs and procedures are consistent and legal; conducting environmental evaluations and surveys; and providing recommendations, technical guidance, and assistance on the interpretation of environmental requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Pay Range
$76,653.00 - $99,652.00
