Major Duties
At the entry level of this position, you will:
- Provide environmental compliance, Emergency Management Systems (EMS) and stewardship support services to EPA office, laboratories, field offices and operations to strengthen EPA's credibility and reputation as an environmental leader under the direction of the branch chief. Provide comprehensive technical support to Environmental Safety and Health Program Branch's (ESHPB), Safety, Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) subject matter experts (SMEs), senior staff and management.
- Provide technical support to the National Environmental Management System (EMS) Program Manager and the Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) Program Manager.
- Assist in the development and implementation of agency-wide EMS and SHMS programs. Support EPA facilities in tailoring their EMS/SHMS programs to address site-specific needs, support senior professionals in the development, dissemination and maturations of local EMS/SHMS programs.
- Create and sponsor environmental stewardship initiatives. Identify and implement opportunities to reduce the agency's footprint, such as initiatives related to composting, recycling, energy and water conservation, and sustainable builds. Develop outreach and training materials to support these initiatives.
You will spend less than 24% of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.

Qualifications
You do not need a degree to qualify for this position.
We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined as assisting in the monitoring and development of environmental management systems (EMS); analyzing and researching new and revised guidelines for Environmental Management of Systems (EMS) Safety Health and Environmental Management (SHMS) programsOR master's or equivalent graduate degree; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related; degree in an academic discipline related to this position.Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a wide range of Safety, Health and Environmental Management (SHEM) and environmental management system (EMS) concepts, principles, regulations, and practices.
Skill in communicating technical information to various audiences.
Knowledge of a variety of environmental regulations such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and the Comprehensive EnvironmentalResponse, Compensation and Liability Act.
Ability to develop outreach materials and training presentations on various environmental initiatives.
Skill in assisting in the review of office EMS plans and programs.
Knowledge in identifying recycling opportunities, environmental concerns for customers. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Pay Range
$57,510.00 - $74,759.00
