The Environmental Protection Specialist position is located with the Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division, Pollution Prevention Branch at Fort Riley, KS.
Major Duties
- Provide staff advisory, planning, and reviewing services in assessing the impact of the installation mission on the environment and to prepare methods to mitigate problems.
- Prepare reports and makes notifications of regulatory activities conducted on the installation as required by permits, regulations, or local management.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the installation's air quality management program and regulatory inspection programs for safety and environmental activities.
- Manage a compliance management database to facilitate effective program management.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes establishing policies and procedures regarding environmental activities (such as air emissions, volatile hazardous air pollution and hazardous substances management and handling) AND providing environmental guidance and recommendations to ensure compliance with state and Federal regulatory requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Environmental Science, Engineering (civil and environmental), Geoscience, OR Ecology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Pay Range
$51,440.00 - $66,868.00
